It all started three years back with the launch of the MMORPG Ragnarok in india, what followed was a huge eruption of MMORPG's including A3 and Gunz.
And now, here we have the big Reliance group foraying into the gaming industry trying to make a quick buck.
They launched supposedly the largest Indian gaming website called Zapak.com(self proclaimed :P).
You wont believe this, but this little project of the Anil Dhirbai Ambani Group has involved funds of over 100 million dollars...
Only god knows what kind of money its gonna really make.
These Zapak guys plan to bring in Cyber Cafe zones called Zapak Zone's over the next few yearsto make more people play their games and also plan to introduce MMORPG's.
And obviously, they claim that the best is yet to come, yeah right :)
Now putting all the assumpltions aside, lets take the facts into consideration.
Zapak.com looks as if it has been designed as a diaper store, with its ahem, flashy yellow skin (Most of the times, i close the browser when i see a yellow background,)
On content, they have some 100 games, most of which are available for free in the internet.
And of course, they have a forum where there is more spam than proper posts.
And Yeah, they have something called Zapak TV! which has not yet even been officially released.
OK, now let me get to the point, I would say that Zapak.com is a criminal waste of webspace.
I would, definitely not develop a website like that by airing ads on MTV when it is in such a bad condition.
My first priority would be in making my website better and then doing publicity stunts.
What still amazes me is that, how did these guys spend so much money on this?
Consider this, I myself built a gaming portal and ended up making one at www.gamerlab.net ...
And fact fact, i just spent 10$ in making that site.
And you have zapak.com which was made for a few crore rupees.
Oh my Gawd! these reliance guys really need to get their act right.
Taking the gaming industry into account, its really large...
So what i did was i roped in a gaming enthusiast to comment upon zapak.com and this is what he said "Zapak.com has nothing good rite now, hope it gets better soon".
Reliance wants to be in the forefront of the highly lucrative gaming industry, Great!
But, they better do something good, or theyre just gonna keep loosing money...
